Features, Uses Of Mock Leno And Huckaback Weave

Mock Leno And Huckaback Weave

Mock leno and huckaback are two important fancy weaves. Both weaves are used to produce towels and the structure of both weaves is rough. Here, I have written about the features and uses of mock leno and huckaback weave.

Mock Leno Weave

Mock leno is a fancy weave and these weaves produce in combination with plain, twill, satin, or other simple weaves or even with brocade figuring. Imitation lenos is another name for Mock leno for a variety of weaves of ordinary construction. However, different types of stripe fabrics are produced by this type of weave structure.

Features Of Mock Leno Weave

The Following are characteristics of mock leno weaves. They are-

  • Firstly, the surface of the fabric is like a net or perforated. So, the surface is rough.
  • Secondly, this weave is produced ordinarily without special leno shafts.
  • Typically repeat size even number. The smallest repeat size is 6 x 6.
  • Although the weave structure of mock leno is quite similar the denting plan is different from one another.
  • After that, the mock leno weave can be divided diagonally into two equal parts.
  • Lastly, it has the property of water absorbency. So, it can be used as a towel.

Construction Principle of Mock Leno Weave

Mock leno weave is constructed by interlacing the warp and weft threads in a specific manner. Here’s a step-by-step process to produce a mock leno weave:

  • It should first indicate the repetition size, then split into fourths and fill in a little motif in the corners.
  • Next, completely invert this motif in the next two quarters by switching weft lifts for warp lifts and vice versa.
  • The final weave is created by fusing the first and second phases.

Thread the heddles

Divide the warp threads

Weave the ground weft

Create the Leno effect

Repeat the weaving process

In sum, the mock Leno weave is produced by combining the plain weave structure with the Leno effect.

Mock Leno Weave Uses:

A textured, open, and lacy appearance fabric weave is produced by a mock leno weave. It is commonly used to produce different types of lightweight and breathable fabrics for clothing and home use. The following products are produced by using a mock leno weave. They are-

  • Towel
  • Canvas cloths,
  • Cheap fabrics for window curtains,
  • Light dress fabrics,
  • Blouses,
  • Aprons Etc.
  • Lastly, they are generally employed in combination with other weaves in many cases.

Huckaback Weave

Huckaback Weave is also a fancy weave type. it is also known as huck weave or huck lace. This type of weave bears a honeycomb effect in its structure. However, this weave is constructed by alternately combining a floating with a plain weave. Therefore, thick and heavy textures are produced by this weave. The design is generally used to produce stripes and check effects on the fabrics.

Features of Huckaback Weave

The following are characteristics of a huckaback weave. They are-

  • Firstly, the surface of the fabric is rough.
  • Typically repeat size odd number, then a better structure formed.
  • After that, the widely used repeat size is 10 X 10.
  • Therefore, this weave can be divided diagonally into two equal parts.
  • Lastly, it has the property of water absorbency. So, it can be used as a towel.

Huckaback Weave Construction Process

It is a step-by-step process to produce huck a back weave. The following is the construction process of a huck a back weave. They are-

  • First, the repetition size is noted, divided into four equal parts, and the plain weave is filled in between the two opposing halves.
  • Second, the motif created by using the plain weave and adjusting the lifts in the other two quarters has to be completed. It must, however, guarantee that the design and the plain weave be joined together successfully.
  • The first and second weaves are finally combined to create the final weave.

Create the pattern

Repeat the weaving process

In order to make the huckaback weave, an elevated pattern made by floats is combined with the plain weave structure. Essentially, the texture and density of the floats may change based on the desired look and use of the cloth.

Huckaback Weave Uses:

It is used to produce a textured, absorbent, and durable fabric which is widely used for manufacturing towels, dishcloths, and other household textiles. The following is the application of Huckaback Weave. They are-

  • Hand Towels,
  • Glass Cloths,
  • Roller Towels and Quilting
  • Shirting,
  • Dress Wear

I have written about the basic design of plain weave, twill weave, and sateen weave. This fancy design is different from the basic weave. This type of weave is performed for a special purpose.
