Fabric Cutting in Garments Industry

Fabric cutting in garments industry is an important part of the apparel manufacturing process. When completely manual, semi-manual, and computerized methods involve in cutting operations. Firstly, the fabric is spread inlay form for cutting operation. This fabric cutting also involves the garment manufacturing process. It needs to take extra care during cutting operations because incorrect cutting can make various garment faults. After fabric cutting, sorting or bundling is also performed for sewing the fabric parts to make a complete garment. Different apparel accessories are also attached to the sewing section.

Methods of Fabric Cutting:

There are three methods for fabric cutting. The following are the methods of fabric cutting. They are-

  1. Completely manual method: Firstly, this type of fabric cutting is not available in the garments industry. But this type of cutting performs for tailoring purposes, where single fabrics are cut. In fact, it is completely a manual method of fabric cutting. It also needs more time for cutting.
  2. Manually operated powered knife method: Secondly, in this method cutting operation is done by using a knife. When the knife is placed in the head of the cutting machine. Moreover, it is the most used method in the apparel industry for cutting fabrics.
  3. Computerized methods: Lastly, in the modern age, the use of computerized methods become popular for performing cutting operations. Here, all programs load to the computer and it also performs all the activities accordingly.

There are some activities for fabric cutting in the garment industry. The following is the process flow chart of fabric cutting in the apparel industry. They are-

Fabric Spreading

Marker placing at the top

Fabric cutting

Sorting

Numbering and checking

Parts replacing

Bundling

Fabric cutting in garments industry is very important for the next sewing section. When cutting fabrics parts sort according to the size of the fabric. After sorting, numbering is done at the same time, and checking is performed 100% to avoid any types of mistakes.

We know that dyed fabrics vary from one lot to another although dyeing performs in the same dyes. Also, shade can be varying from layer to layer. So, during numbering extra care should take in fact numbering is essential for avoiding the shade variation of the fabric. After that parts are separated and made into a bundle for sending to the sewing section.

So, the cutting section in charge has a great duty to do all of this according to the sequence, illustrated above.
