Chemical Composition Of Viscose Rayon

Viscose Rayon

Viscose Rayon was discovered by C.F. Cross and E.J. Bevan in 1891. It was discovered in the UK. It is one of the oldest man-made filaments. We know that viscose rayon is produced from wood, which contains cellulose; for this reason, it is called regenerated cellulosic fiber. It is produced by a spinning process.

The raw materials for the viscose rayon are prepared in the coagulated bath. Then the liquid solution is sent to the spinneret through the spinning nozzle at high pressure. The spinneret contains about 12 to 90 holes whose diameter is 0.5 to 0.1 mm, through which liquid is passed.

Chemical Composition Of Viscose Rayon

The following chemical solvents are contained in a spinning bath of viscose rayon.

  • H2SO4: 10%
  • Na2SO4: 18%
  • Glucose: 02%
  • ZnSO4: 01%
  • Water: 69%

The above composition is calculated at 100%. Viscose rayon is one of the important manmade fibers. So, we should have bast knowledge about viscose rayon.
